FL 2010 Republican Primaries Voters Guide (Tallahassee Style)

    About The Guide:

This guide is merely my own opinions and endorsements. I have tried to research as much as I can, but the decision is up to you. I have provided all the links that I can to the candidates personal website so you can find out for yourself if you agree with their stances on issues. My goal is to get you engaged in the research process!

What’s with all the checks and X’s?? Here is how the icons work:

I endorse this candidate, I highly endorse this candidate
I do not endorse this candidate, I highly do not endorse this candidate

If you want an über exhaustive list of candidates in Florida, check this site out »

    The List:

  2. Governor:
  3. Bill McCollum

  4. Why Bill McCollum? This has to be the most heated debate this election. To be honest, both McCollum and Scott have similar views on issues. What really turns me towards McCollum is his integrity, experience and honesty. Rick Scott has knowingly spread deception in his ad campaigns. Most of what he says about McCollum has been a stretching of the truth or simply taken out of context. If you FactCheck Rick Scott you’ll get a small glimpse of this.* Honestly, the mud slinging between both of these candidates is ridiculous. Out of the two, I highly recommend Bill McCollum.

  5. US Senate:
  6. Marco Rubio

  7. Why Marco Rubio? Mr. Rubio is great guy. He is a strong Christian and admittedly pro-life. I believe he will work hard to fight against the liberal mindset that has DC in a spin of immoral laws being passed. I highly recommend Marco Rubio for US Senate.

  8. Attorney General:
  9. Jeff Kottkamp

  10. Why Jeff Kottkamp? I have personally met Mr. Kottkamp and he has prayed at several National Day of Prayer events at the state capitol. He is a strong pro-life Christian who sincerely loves Jesus. His personal testimony of healing from a near-death illness is really compelling. He will make a great Attorney General.

  11. US Congress:
  12. David Scholl

  13. Why David Scholl? I have personally met Mr. Scholl a few months ago as he stopped in to our House of Prayer in Tallahassee. He is a Christian and a great family man. From talking with him I believe he would vote with integrity, biblical morality and with family in mind.

  14. State House District 9:
  15. Kirk Headley-Perdue
  16. Ann Yarko

  17. Why Ann Yarko? There isn’t a whole lot of info online for either candidate. But from I did find, Ann Yarko is a fiscal and social conservative, and will vote the same. Kirk Headley-Perdue’s campaign manager said she is personally pro-life, but doesn’t believe the government should have a hand in those kind of decisions (i.e. politically pro-choice). Ann Yarko is a ‘staunch catholic’ and is therefore pro-life and pro-traditional marriage. Although Ann is younger than Kirk, I believe her to be the best choice.

  18. Circuit Judge, 2nd Circuit groups 9:
  19. Eddie Evans
  20. Karen Gievers
  21. Barbara Hobbs
  22. Bruce Leinback
  23. J. Layne Smith

  24. Why J. Layne Smith? Mr. Smith is an experienced civil, criminal defense and administrative trial lawyer and has over 22 years of experience as a private practice attorney. While you can never be 100% sure of judges beliefs (that’s just how judgery goes,) Mr. Smith’s judicial philosophy is spot on. He follows the law, not his own ideas.

  25. School Board Member District 1:
  26. Donna Campanella Allocco
  27. Forrest Van Camp

  28. School Board Member District 5:
  29. Georgia Joy Bowen
  30. Laymon Hicks

  31. County Commissioner District 5:
  32. Kristin Dozier
  33. Bob Rackleff
  34. David E. Ward

  35. County Commissioner At Large, Group 2:
  36. Nick Maddox
  37. Rick Malphurs

  38. Scott Matteo
  39. Cliff Thaell
  40. Why Rick Malphurs? Mr. Malphurs is a Christian who is pro life and pro family. He stands for integrity, transparency and job creation. On his site he quotes, “I offer nothing more than simple facts, plain arguments, and common sense.” – Thomas Paine. I believe he’ll vote that way. His site also states that he believes the Constitution is not a living document.

    Nonpartisan Municipal City Residents Only:

  41. Mayor
  42. Larry Hendricks
  43. John Marks
  44. Steve Stewart

  45. Why Steve Stewart? Mr. Stewart is a family man, as you can tell from his website. I believe the fact that he’s a family man will greatly impact how he runs Tallahassee. Besides other issues, Mr. Stewart purposes to cut utility rates by 20%. Fantastic! He is also for government transparency. I personally find the site he just launched, http://talgovspending.com, to be very informative. For instance, did you know the city of Tallahassee has spent $12,854,439 in near 2 years in the ‘general fund’?

  46. City Commissioner Seat 3:
  47. Stephen Hogge

  48. Nancy Miller
  49. Bill Rollins
  50. City Commissioner Seat 5:
  51. Erwin Jackson

  52. James Moran
  53. Gil Ziffer
  54. Why Erwin Jackson? Mr. Jackson did a great job with getting info out there on his website. His videos section has probably 40 videos of him at City Hall confronting wrongdoings in TLH. From what I can tell he is fiscally conservative and will do a good job at cutting city spending.

*Do Rick Scott’s Claims Against Bill McCollum Hold Any Weight?
